Summer 2016 in Rancho Sahuarita

School is almost out, the heat is on its way and residents are ready for a summer of family, friends and fun.  Summer means that it is time again for another season jam-packed full of camps, trips to the Splash Park and movie nights.  While the favorites remain, the team at Rancho Sahuarita is ready to provide the community with a whole new list of fun events and programs to enjoy.

“This summer, we will have something for everyone! Whether you are looking for a Movie Under the Stars or a day at the waterpark, fun will be around every corner,” said Michelle Moreno, Assistant Community Director for Rancho Sahuarita.

For residents, it just wouldn’t be summer without the Splash Park. The “Grand Opening of the Splash Park” event is the perfect way to welcome in the summer swim season! Complete with music, activities and character visits by the pool, this resident favorite continues to be the place to be in Sahuarita. The Splash Park will be open all summer long, until Labor Day weekend. Swim lessons will also be available to residents again this summer, in both private and group settings.

The Sahuarita Unified School District, Town of Sahuarita Parks and Recreation Department, and Rancho Sahuarita will once again partner to provide the community an opportunity to keep kids occupied during the summer afternoons. The Summer Open Rec and Teen Rec programs are ideal for kids who finish summer school in the early afternoon and are looking for a safe and fun way to spend the rest of the day.

On the partnership, SUSD Superintendent Dr. Valenzuela said, “Our schools belong to the community. By leveraging our collective resources, and shared expertise, with the Town, development sector, and other entities, we are able to scale the scope and quality of educational services that we deliver to the community. Truly, when we work together, we create greater outcomes, and the real winners are the families that we are all here to serve.”

The Summer Open Rec program is offered at no cost and is available for children and teens from the Sahuarita community. It will encourage creativity, interaction, and fitness through activity and play. On top of yearly event favorites, such as the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events, children’s summer camps and pool parties; Rancho Sahuarita also provides residents programming at satellite parks and after summer school programs. Beginning in May, residents will also be able to go to their neighborhood parks for activities like football, basketball, Health and Wellness classes and poolside music.

Rancho Sahuarita, in partnership with Carondelet St. Mary’s, will also again be offering free summer camps for children of various ages. In 2015, the Carondelet “Be Well” Summer Camps hosted 180 children at no cost.

Christine Moreno, Lifestyle Director for Rancho Sahuarita, commented, “Our summer camps are a healthy way for the kids to stay active and engaged throughout the summer. They are very popular and fill up quickly. I recommend residents register early. Carondelet has been a great partner, and we thank them for their support throughout the year. It’s going to be a great summer in Rancho Sahuarita.”

Residents of the community can reference the Resident and Community Events section in the Summer Village Talk for a complete rundown of upcoming events and activities, which will be available beginning in early May. A full list is also available on ActiveNet.
